This is probably one of the most innovative new offerings from any cricket bat manufacturer in recent years. Slazenger actually had the MCC modify the rules, or rather clarify the rules to ensure it was legal. The Slazenger V100 TAS can be used at any level below First Class / List A with the professional guys like Eoin Morgan using a V100 model without the inserts.
The premise is that the TAS inserts, TAS standing for torsioned and sprung which describes how these strips of oak are actually bent backwards before being inserted into grooves cut in the edges of the bat, will not only add strength to the edges but will also give more power when the ball is struck.
For more information on the TAS inserts here is a video review from the company that developed them.
